Speaker of the House Samuel H. Smith (R-Jefferson) announced special elections to fill the vacant 42nd legislative district House seat in Allegheny County and the 95th legislative district House seat in York County. The special elections will be held in conjunction with the Primary Election on Tuesday, May 21.
The vacancy in the 42nd district was created by the resignation of former Representative Matt Smith who was elected to the Senate. The vacancy in the 95th district was created by the resignation of former Representative Eugene DePasquale, who became the Commonwealth’s auditor general.
The 42nd district is located in Allegheny County, near Pittsburgh. The district includes parts of the City of Pittsburgh, all or parts of Mount Lebanon and Scott Townships and the boroughs of Bethel Park, Green Tree, Rosslyn Farms and Thornburg.
The 95th district is located in York County and includes the following municipalities: the City of York, Spring Garden and West Manchester Townships, and the boroughs of North York and West York.
Candidates for each office will be selected by their respective political parties’ internal process.
