Weekly Wrap:

With Tuesday having been Election Day, all was quiet in Harrisburg this week. For a recap on Tuesday’s big races, check out our blog from earlier this week: https://www.buchanangovernmentrelations.com/news-from-second-and-state-38/

A Look Ahead:

Only the House of Representatives will be in session next week, and a short week at that since Wednesday is Veterans’ Day. Nevertheless, several committees will be convening voting meetings and public hearings. Of note, the House Gaming Oversight Committee will hold public hearings on Monday and Tuesday: at Monday’s hearing they’ll discuss proposed changes to certain gaming license requirements, and on Tuesday, they’ll discuss fantasy sports and sports betting.

Also of note, the House Finance Committee will hold a voting meeting on H. B. 1327 (Peifer, R-Pike) and H.B. 1328 (Milne, R-Chester), both of which amend the Fiscal Code.

Read H.B. 1327 here: http://www.legis.state.pa.us/cfdocs/billInfo/billInfo.cfm?sYear=2015&sInd=0&body=H&type=B&bn=1327

Read H.B. 1378 here: http://www.legis.state.pa.us/cfdocs/billInfo/billInfo.cfm?sYear=2015&sInd=0&body=H&type=B&bn=1378

Fiscal Code amendments will be necessary for passage of a complete 2015-16 state spending plan, which is now over four months late. And while we’re by no means soothsayers, we’ve got to wonder: does movement of those bills coupled with a General Appropriations bill scheduled for second consideration on the House Week Ahead signal that an end to the impasse is near? Time will tell.
