Governor-elect Tom Wolf has nominated five additional people to Cabinet posts this week and has selected one more member of his executive staff. Current head of purchasing for Georgetown University Curt Topper has been asked to serve as Secretary of DGS. Topper was a deputy secretary of procurement under the Rendell administration. Teresa Miller, former administrator of the Oregon Insurance Division has been asked to oversee the Commonwealth’s Insurance Department. Current Secretary of Corrections for the Commonwealth John Wetzel has been asked to remain in his current post. Additionally, Wolf has nominated Russell Redding as Secretary of Agriculture, a position he held from 2009 to 2011. Robin Weissman has been asked to be Secretary of the Department of Banking and Securities. Weissmann served as Pennsylvania Treasurer from 2007 through 2009. Like other Cabinet contenders, these nominees will also be subject to confirmation by the Pennsylvania Senate.
In addition to the nominations mentioned above, Wolf has also selected Randy Albright to serve as the Secretary of the Budget. Albright currently serves as the executive director of the Senate Democratic Appropriations Committee, and he brings nearly three decades of experience to his new position.
It’s a busy time for the new administration, and we expect more nominations to be rolled out daily. Stay tuned to this blog or follow us on Twitter@BuchananGov for updates.
